Open-access journal PLOS (Public Library of Science) has announced that Dr. Meredith Niles will join the PLOS Board of Directors, effective September 5, 2014.
According to Board chairman Gary Ward, Meredith’s unique career arc in both science and policy will greatly contribute to PLOS’ mission and vision going forward. PLOS will benefit from her significant expertise in legislative affairs, her passion for Open Access and her experience as a working scientist.
Niles is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in sustainability science at Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government, with a specialisation in climate smart agriculture. Prior to Harvard, she served as a consultant with organisations including Climate Action Reserve and the Organic Valley Dairy Cooperative. Her previous experience includes contributions to international HIV/AIDS programs and policies in her US State Department role as the public affairs coordinator for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). She has also held the role of food and climate change campaign coordinator for the Center of Food Safety in Washington, DC.
