The 7th ALPSP International Conference started September 10, 2014. The event witnessed an enormous increase in registrations as against last year. Nineteen countries are represented from a mix of publishers, vendors, technology suppliers and librarians.
The keynote delivered by Amy Brand from Digital Publishing explained their strategy for supporting start-ups through improving discovery and building solutions around scientific publishing. She identified a number of researcher pain points and explored the way that new technologies could improve innovation and provide new technologies to support research.
The second section was a panel session titled "Customers as competitors." This included presentations from Rick Anderson as Chair, Tony Horova from Univ Ottawa, Jill Taylor-Roe from Univ Newcastle and Graham Stone from Univ Huddersfield. All presentations seek to address the need to adopt change and to challenge publishers with changing the way they work.
