The annual Frankfurt Book Fair began with THE ARTS+, the new marketplace for the business of creativity at the Frankfurter Buchmesse, on Wednesday morning. This is the place at the fair where creativity meets technology, art meets innovation, content meets business.
About 7,100 exhibitors from more than 100 countries are attending the Frankfurt Book Fair this year. Over the course of the next 5 days, the fair will offer over 4,000 events featuring renowned writers and publishing professionals.
The leading literary award in the English-speaking world, the Man Booker Prize, will be in the spotlight at this year's Frankfurter Buchmesse. The Book Fair will host three high-profile events, all taking place on Wednesday, October 19, discussing the importance of this prestigious award and shining a light on this year's contenders.

The official opening of the Weltempfang, the forum for politics, literature and translation at the Frankfurt Book Fair, will also take place on Wednesday.
On the Hotspot stage for Professional and scientific information a panel set up by Ingenta discussed the discoverability of open access content. Speakers Frances Pinter from Knowledge Unlatched, Phil Jones of Digital Science and Carrie Calder from Springer Nature discussed the difficulties to ensure this type of content is discovered.
Datalogics then followed with a session on the user experience and discussed how they can help build an ebook platform connecting readers and content in a simple, adaptive and interactive way.
Elsevier offered a discussion on the digital revolution focusing on how in the 21st Century the way we exchange information has changed. As a result scientific work is becoming more transparent, collaborative and innovative. The panel discussed these areas what are seen to be the opportunities and implications for scientific communities and publishers in the future.
In the Education hotspot area ITSI ltd. discussed if the etext book is alive or dead followed by Learningmate discussing within a panel what Pokemon Go, Big data and ALT text mean for education.
