ProQuest enhances Summon Services for improved resource discovery -

ProQuest is improving resource discovery and enriching the user experience through enhancements made available to Summon® service customers. With this release, ProQuest continues to focus on improving discovery for the benefit of libraries, to ensure users can better discover content available at the library, and libraries can implement tools within the discovery environment to help those users. This includes enhancements that enable more successful known-item searching, along with integration with Springshare LibChat 2 and EasyBib.

A key component of this release is improving known-item searching through Summon, which is already known as the best in its class at performing this type of search across web-scale discovery systems. Known-item searching is a type of search where a user knows the title, author and/or other information about an item, and searches for the item.

The new known-item searching improvements were designed to address weaknesses within the user search environment when they use the single-search box approach, as opposed to using the advanced search interface in Summon. Users will experience overall improvements for known-item queries that contain the title and any combinations of subtitle, author, publication title (for Journal Article), Edition (for Book/ebook) and publication year.

Two additional options for libraries to improve the user experience, Springshare LibChat 2 and an EasyBib export option are also included. With Springshare LibChat 2, libraries can incorporate it into Summon to take advantage of the latest chat system for online reference. As for EasyBib, libraries can add this to the citation tools that users can use when exporting results out of Summon.
