Emerald Publishing Director to play leading role in Charleston Open Access event -

Tony Roche, Publishing Director at Emerald Group Publishing, will be one of the panel of contributors leading the ‘Open Perspectives in Open Access: Realities of Commercial Publishing' session at the Charleston Conference, South Carolina, on November 5 at 12.45pm (ET).

Open Access (OA) remains a hot topic in scholarly publishing and this debate will present issues for discussion to further the necessary cooperation among librarians and commercial publishers.

Tony Roche has been instrumental in shaping Emerald's Open Access approach and will be able to share his vast experience of OA, providing the session with a global publisher's perspective on the debate as it pertains to serving the social sciences communities.

Emerald will also be running a Juried Product Development Forum at the Charleston Conference on November 4, from 5pm-6.15pm.

These much sought-after sessions will enable Emerald to run a focus group with highly influential librarians on the topic of librarian interest in hybrid business case products that include research and teaching resources.

Emerald recently celebrated International Open Access Week (Oct 19 - 25) with the launch of a Special Issue of its Online Information Review on Open Access contributed to by some of the world's leading OA experts.

In July 2015, Emerald launched its Green Open Access Zero Embargo trial, applicable for all mandated articles submitted to the company's Library and Information Science (LIS) and selected Information and Knowledge Management journals. This change allows authors to deposit the post-print version of the article into their respective institutional repository immediately upon official publication, rather than after Emerald's 24-month embargo period for mandated social sciences articles.

Emerald made the decision to trial the zero month embargo period following consultation with its newly formed Librarian Advisory Group (LAG). The group is made up of leading editors and authors from Emerald Library Studies and Information Management journals, alongside other key academics in Library Studies and adjacent disciplines. The group discusses and advises Emerald on issues of common interest in the LIS field including Open Access policy and editorial best practice.
