Ithaka S+R's Deanna Marcum selected to receive the NFAIS 2016 Miles Conrad Award -

The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAISTM), a global non-profit membership organisation serving the information services community, has announced that Deanna Marcum, Managing Director of Ithaka S+R, has been selected to receive the NFAIS 2016 Miles Conrad Award.

NFAIS’s Miles Conrad Award, long considered the information community’s premier annual honour for achievement in fostering the growth of information services, is being given to Marcum in recognition of her significant accomplishments in librarianship and helping establish the digital future for libraries through her leadership roles during her career in government, academia and non-profit organizations.

As Ithaka S+R’s Managing Director, Marcum provides research and strategic guidance to help universities and colleges, libraries, publishers and cultural institutions navigate economic and technological change. In her current role, she leads a staff of program directors and analysts with wide-ranging expertise in higher education and libraries and scholarly communication.

From 2003 to 2011, Marcum served as Associate Librarian for Library Services with the Library of Congress (LoC). She managed 53 divisions and offices, leading 1,600 employees responsible for acquisitions, cataloguing, public service and preservation activities; services to the blind and physically handicapped; and network and bibliographic standards for the LoC. She was also responsible for integrating the emerging digital resources into the traditional artifactual library, the first step toward building a national digital library for the 21st century.

The NFAIS Miles Conrad Award and Memorial Lecture are named in honour of G. Miles Conrad (1911-1964), co-founder of NFAIS. Conrad, who was the former president of BIOSIS, had an early grasp of the potential of computer technology when applied to the creation, organization and dissemination of research information. The NFAIS Miles Conrad Lecturers each year are industry leaders, innovators and opinion-makers representing the full breadth of the information services community.

Recent recipients of the Miles Conrad Award include Tim Collins, President & CEO of EBSCO Industries; Marjorie M.K. Hlava, President, Access Innovations, Inc.; Robert N. Snyder, Chairman, Cambridge Information Group; Dame Lynne Brindley, Chief Executive, The British Library; and Donald A.B. Lindberg, National Library of Medicine.
