Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, has announced that the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) Health Sciences Library, which also serves the Royal Women's Hospital, has selected the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution and SFX OpenURL link resolver to replace the library's EBSCO Discovery Service™.
The RMH evaluation team sought a discovery platform and open-link resolver that would provide a simple, intuitive way for users to access resources. According to Library Manager, Susan Monaghan, the RMH Health Sciences Library opted to implement Ex Libris Primo and SFX after reviewing their journal A-Z and discovery search products. The library had been using another vendor's solution, but because of product redevelopment and the configuration of the discovery index, the solution was no longer meeting their needs.
The Royal Melbourne Health Sciences Library services the Royal Melbourne and Royal Women's hospitals and will soon extend services to a third hospital in the Parkville Medical Precinct. The Library also provides services to mental health agencies of the Victoria Department of Health & Human Services.
The Library provides essential resources to onsite and offsite staff and students via a largely electronic collection. As well as offering a range of traditional services, such as document supply services, the Library became the first Australian medical library to appoint a clinical librarian, a service that is only now becoming mainstream. The Library is also a key educational hub and provides an extensive training program.
