Data science company Altmetric has announced that their customers will be able to access the Explorer for Institutions platform using their Shibboleth single sign-on credentials. This additional authentication method provides customers with the option of seamless access to the Explorer platform, making it even easier for users to browse and report on the online attention surrounding their research.
Shibboleth is an open-source software package that provides users with standardised access to services subscribed to by their institution while maintaining high levels of privacy. Altmetric is now a registered service provider for the UK Federation and is also able to offer Shibboleth authentication to institutions anywhere in the world.
Additionally, institutions using Shibboleth authentication can also make use of a WAYFless link that Altmetric supplies, thus bypassing the 'Where Are You From' (WAYF) step during the institutional login process and streamlining the user experience.
