Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, has announced that State Library Victoria has chosen the Ex Libris Rosetta digital preservation system to manage its digital resources and sustain them in perpetuity. Rosetta will be replacing the library's DigiTool® digital asset management system.
State Library Victoria sought a system that would enable the library to collect, manage, and preserve digital assets. The ideal solution would integrate with the Library's other core systems and provide a smooth migration pathway. User experience was a key requirement: the system should allow the Library to provide intuitive, powerful, and playful digital interfaces for current and future users, enabling the development of new players according to the Library's needs.
Opened in 1856 as the Melbourne Public Library, State Library Victoria is Australia's oldest and busiest public library. Over the past 160 years, the Library has collected more than 4.9 million items, including books, manuscripts, serials, photographs, artworks, maps, and ephemera. More than 70,000 items are added to the Library's rich collection annually, and the Library leads the sector with its ambitious digitisation program. Every year, the Library welcomes over 1.9 million visitors in person and more than 4 million visits online.
