Healthcare knowledge provider BMJ has announced Josef Smolen as the new editor of Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (ARD). ARD is the top ranked journal in the field of rheumatology with an impact factor of 12.811.
Josef Smolen is Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Division of Rheumatology and Department of Medicine at the University of Vienna, as well as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Hietzing Hospital, Vienna.
An accomplished author of several hundred original publications and lead investigator of many clinical trials, his scientific interests cover basic and translational research, outcomes and epidemiologic research, as well as novel therapies in rheumatic diseases.
Smolen has also served as President of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) and the Austrian Rheumatology and Immunology Societies.
Smolen will take over as editor from Tore K Kvien from September 1, 2017. ARD is the official journal of EULAR reflecting the whole field of rheumatology. The journal has been co-owned by EULAR and BMJ for the past 18 years.
