World of Learning at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2017 -

The international educational sector will be making an innovative, multifaceted and digital appearance at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2017 under the title "World of Learning".

Highlights in Hall 4.2 will include Sofa talks and workshops on the future of learning in "World of Learning Lab." At the weekend, together with interested private visitors, experts such as Jens Mönig (SAP), Armin Himmelrath (SPIEGEL Online), Oliver Rohrbeck (Die Drei ???), the German Library Association, Jugend Hackt and the Chaos Computer Club will present topics such as fake news, coding and adaptive learning. One special event will be a virtual dive at a coral reef using VR goggles. This interactive ideas laboratory on the future of learning is being organised by the European Learning Industry Group (ELIG) in Hall 4.2 N 75.

Who is behind the more than 39 million articles in the world's largest encyclopaedia? At the book fair, visitors can watch firsthand as international Wikipedia authors go to work. Authors will be photographed in a professional photo studio, and new articles and translations will appear during the German-French "Ediathon".

Over five days, bloggers from the Berlin-based Blogfabrik (Hall 4.2 A 80) will be giving workshops and presentations on the skills needed in the digital sphere. At Hate Speech Bingo, which will take place on Sunday on the stage in Hall 4.2 C 96, participants will examine sexist, racist and homophobic posts in the web. Network activists will present “Best of Hate” selections and discuss strategies for dealing with Internet trolls.

At the weekend, the book fair will be transformed into a pop-up campus, which will kick off on Saturday at 9:30 am with a breakfast, open to everyone, at the ILC Café, 4.2 N 75. As of Saturday at 10:30 am, publishers will be presenting a multifaceted programme for students on the stage of the Hot Spot Professional & Scientific Information (Halle 4.2 N 99). It all begins at 10:00 am with science slammer and chemist Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim ("The Secret Life of Scientists") known from numerous appearances on YouTube and radio (ARD and ZDF). The programme will be accompanied by a range of activities at the stands of participating exhibitors.

Additionally, cabaret performer Martin Puntigam, astronomer Florian Freistetter and microbiologist Helmut Jungwirth will answer fundamental questions about life on earth. In their cabaret performance, the Science Busters demonstrate that science and humour actually go hand in hand - experiments included. Time and place: Saturday, 14 October 2017, 3:30–4:30 pm, Hall 4.2 C 96.
