Mosaic Life Care Taps Wolters Kluwer Health’s POC Advisor to reduce sepsis severity and deaths, enhance quality strategies -

Wolters Kluwer Health has announced that Mosaic Life Care will leverage the real-time clinical surveillance and analytics of POC AdvisorTM to improve sepsis outcomes as part of a larger quality improvement initiative. The clinical intelligence platform is considered a crucial patient safety solution for the nationally-recognised hospital and plays an integral role in advancing its position as a high-quality organisation.

A Hospitals & Health Networks 'Most Wired' hospital, the 350-bed Mosaic Life Care provides a full range of healthcare services throughout 23 counties in northwest Missouri, northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska. It is a past recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network of organizations that share a common commitment to improving the delivery of care through high-quality, data-driven, evidence-based medical care. POC Advisor was chosen for its robust surveillance that exceeded the capabilities of its current electronic health record (EHR) system.

POC Advisor aggregates, normalises and analyses patient data from disparate clinical systems to drive early sepsis detection. Hundreds of rules are built into the platform to account for possible comorbidities and medication abnormalities. This enables prescriptive alerts that have demonstrated unprecedented levels of sensitivity and specificity, alerting clinicians to patients at risk without alert fatigue. POC Advisor is the only sepsis surveillance solution with scientifically proven outcomes, as published in a peer-reviewed study in the Journal of American Medical Informatics Association that found it cut sepsis mortality in half, reduced related 30-day readmissions by 30 percent and lowered lengths of stay.
