Academic publisher Oxford University Press has announced that it will publish the International Communication Association (ICA) journals, beginning January 2018.
ICA is an academic association for scholars interested in the study, teaching, and application of all aspects of human and mediated communication. ICA has over 4,000 members globally and is the premier international academic association for communication to scholarship.
ICA journals include Journal of Communication, Human Communication Research, Communication Theory, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication and Communication, Culture, & Critique.
The Journal of Communication is a general forum for communication scholarship and publishes articles and book reviews examining a broad range of issues in communication theory and research. The journal publishes the best available scholarship on all aspects of communication. All methods of scholarly inquiry into communication are welcome. Manuscripts should be conceptually meaningful, methodologically sound, interesting, clearly written, and thoughtfully argued.
Human Communication Research concentrates on presenting empirical work in any area of human communication. The special brief of the journal is to advance understanding of human symbolic processes, so there is a strong emphasis on theory-driven research, the development of new theoretical models in communication, and the development of innovative methods for observing and measuring communication behaviour. The journal has a broad social science focus, so it should appeal to scholars in communication from psychology, sociology, linguistics, and anthropology, as well as areas of communication science.
Communication Theory publishes research articles, theoretical essays, and reviews on topics of broad theoretical interest from across the range of communication studies. Essays, regardless of topic or methodological approach, must make a significant contribution to communication theory. Data-based papers are appropriate only insofar as they advance new theoretical developments in communication. The journal recognises that approaches to theory development and explication are diverse. No single approach or set of approaches is privileged.
The Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication is a web-based, peer-reviewed scholarly journal. Its focus is social science research on communicating with computer-based media technologies. Within that general purview, the journal is broadly interdisciplinary, publishing work by scholars in communication, business, education, political science, sociology, psychology, media studies, information science, and other disciplines. Acceptable formats for submission include original research articles and meta-analyses of prior research.
Communication, Culture, & Critique publishes critical, interpretive, and qualitative research examining the role of communication and cultural criticism in today's world. The journal welcomes high quality research and analyses from diverse theoretical and methodological approaches from all fields of communication, media, and cultural studies. Sites for enquiry include all kinds of text- and print-based media, as well as broadcast, still, and moving images and electronic modes of communication including the internet and mobile telephony.
