The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) has announced a collaboration with Frankfurter Buchmesse to bring SSP and The Scholarly Kitchen programming to the Academic and Business Information Stage in Hall 4.2 at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Fair attendees are invited to attend two insightful sessions exploring forthcoming industry developments along with a showcase of global and diversity excellence. This event is free to all Fair attendees on October 10, 2018, from 8:45 am to 11:00 am.
In the first session, What's Hot and Cooking in Scholarly and Academic Publishing?, The Scholarly Kitchen Chefs will explore what's next in scholarly communications and separate the hype from reality regarding forthcoming industry developments in a lighting round format. Attendees will hear their insightful perspectives about the latest trends and potential challenges facing scholarly and academic publishers at present. Speakers include: David Crotty, Executive Editor, The Scholarly Kitchen and Editorial Director, Journals Policy for Oxford University Press; Angela Cochran, Associate Editor, The Scholarly Kitchen and Journals Director at the American Society of Civil Engineers; Robert Harington, Associate Executive Director, Publishing at the American Mathematical Society; Roger C. Schonfeld, Director of Ithaka S+R's Library and Scholarly Communication Program; Todd Carpenter, Executive Director of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO); and Michael Clarke, Managing Partner at Clarke & Esposito.
The second session, the Global Excellence and Diversity Showcase, will feature representatives from Latin America, Asia and Africa - regions that are often overshadowed in the present Western dominated media/ecosystem - who will highlight success stories from their communities in the areas of authorship, publishing and metrics, innovation, and outreach. Focusing on the strengths and opportunities for scholarly publishing in their regions, the panelists will demonstrate how a globally inclusive and diverse ecosystem benefits the whole scholarly publishing community. Speakers include: Veronica Klipp, Publisher at Wits University Press; Andrew Joseph, Digital Publisher at Wits University Press; Cathy Holland, Business Development Manager, Publishing, Digital Science; Aadi Narayana Varma Dantuluri, Head of Product & Innovation and (Co-Founder) Profeza; and YUN Wei, Director of Economics and Management Division, Social Sciences Academic Press (China), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Adrian Stanley, Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) President, and Vice President, Global Development at Digital Science and Heather Ruland Staines, Ph.D, Director of Partnerships at Hypothes.is will moderate.
