National Kidney Foundation names new Editor-in-Chief for Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease -

The National Kidney Foundation has announced Dr. Charuhas Thakar as the new editor-in-chief of its journal Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease (ACKD). Dr. Thakar, who is a Professor of Medicine with Tenure at the University of Cincinnati, OH, serves as the Director of Nephrology, Kidney C.A.R.E. Program at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and is the Chief of Nephrology at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center.

ACKD is a bimonthly journal of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and focuses in-depth on the care and management of persons with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and those at risk of CKD. Each issue is dedicated to expert reviews on a single clinical topic, with a focus on emerging evidence and unmet clinical need. Clinical care issues stress the multidisciplinary team approach to the care of kidney patients. ACKD is widely read and applied in clinical practice by nephrologists (pediatric and adult), nephrology fellows (pediatric and adult), advanced practitioners, and nurses caring for patients with kidney disease.

Dr. Thakar will replace outgoing editor Dr. Jerry Yee in January 2020. Dr. Thakar is nationally recognised for his research related to acute kidney injury in surgical and critical care settings. His work has been published in top-tier journals in the field of nephrology and internal medicine. He has served as a guest editor of ACKD and as a member of the Program Committee of NKF’s Spring Clinical Meetings. His editorial work also includes serving as a co-editor of a textbook, Peri-Operative AKI, as well as guest editor of Anesthesiology Clinics and Cardiology Clinics.

As an administrator, Dr. Thakar oversees a tri-partite portfolio of a large academic division. He has completed a leadership executive education program at Harvard Business School in Managing Healthcare Delivery. He has vast leadership and administrative experience in complex healthcare environments, including federal, nonprofit, and private sectors.
