The first-ever NISO Plus conference is scheduled to be held from February 23-25, 2020, in Baltimore, MD. Building on the success of the former NFAIS annual conference, the idea is to make the meeting as inclusive as possible for the information community. Early bird registration is open through January 15. Interested parties may reserve their space now.
Have you ever wished there were more audience participation and discussion at the conferences you attend? That you could take a really deep dive into the topics that interest you? That you could engage more with people working on these topics from outside your own "bubble"? And that those conversations then get translated into actual next steps? Well, now you can. The first NISO Plus conference is intended to meet all these wishes and more.
The conference seeks to be the place where publishers, vendors, librarians, archivists, product managers, metadata specialists, electronic resource managers, and others come together to solve existing problems and to kickstart the conversations to prevent future problems from occurring.
To enable these conversations, each 90-minute session will be equally split between presentations on each topic and audience discussion, including the next steps needed to turn that discussion into a reality. The conference will feature everything from altmetrics and AI to standards, statistics, and Plan S, and with four streams to choose from – covering NFAIS Foresight, NISO Now, Conversations, and Extras – there’s something for everyone.
While the program is still being put together, some great sessions and speakers are already lined up. There’s Stephanie Orphan (Portico) and Craig van Dyck (CLOCKSS) on digital preservation; Ann Michael (PLOS) and Adrian Stanley (Digital Science) on altmetrics; Judith Russell (University of Florida Libraries) and Jake Zarnegar (Silverchair) on discovery; Lisa Hinchliffe (University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign) and Ralph Younger ACS) on seamless access; and more. Keep an eye on the NISO Plus website and follow them on Twitter (@NISOInfo) for updates.
