Frankfurter Buchmesse GmbH and Hessischer Rundfunk have decided to limit the on-site participants to the moderators and authors scheduled to attend the programme of events planned for the ARD Book Fair Stage that will take place without audience. The decision also applies to the opening ceremony of Frankfurter Buchmesse, for which 250 guests have registered. The opening press conference and the opening ceremony are held on October 13,

The events planned for BOOKFEST city during the week of the fair, from October 14–18, 2020, are still scheduled to take place. Protecting the health of all participants and guests at BOOKFEST city is being given the highest priority. All venues being used for BOOKFEST city meet current regulations mandated by the state of Hesse. Limiting the number of participants will make it possible to comply with social-distancing requirements.
The award ceremony for the German Book Prize is streamed live at https://www.deutscher-buchpreis.de/.
The award ceremony for the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, scheduled for October 18, 2020, will also take place without an invited audience in attendance. The ceremony will be broadcast live by the ARD television network on October18, 2020. The recipient of 2020’s prize, Indian economist Amartya Sen, will join the event remotely. German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will give the speech honouring Amartya Sen in St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt.
