Ex Ordo manages SSP Annual Meeting Call for proposals -

The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) will use Ex Ordo to manage the call for proposals for its 43rd Annual Meeting, to be held on May 24–27, 2021. The meeting theme is ‘Charting a New Course from Chaos to Innovation,’ and it is the Society’s first annual meeting to be designed as a ‘virtual first’ event.

The annual meeting typically receives well over 100 submissions, and SSP expects a similar or even greater number of proposals in 2021, given that submissions will not be limited to those who can travel. In recent years, the number of possible submission types has also expanded, growing to include 5-minute preview sessions as well as poster sessions. For 2021, SSP leadership as well as the Annual Meeting Program Committee co-chairs, Lori Carlin, Yael Fitzgerald, and Cason Lynley, agreed to consider a new system designed especially with conferences in mind, focused not only on the submission and review process, but also on program development, schedule creation, and speaker management.

Earlier in 2020, Ex Ordo, based in Galway, Ireland, responded to SSP’s Request for Proposal for in-kind abstract management services in exchange for various sponsorship benefits. After reviewing a number of strong candidates, the selection committee agreed that Ex Ordo’s system best fit the needs of the Annual Meeting Program Committee and SSP staff. The Ex Ordo platform enables meeting organisers to easily manage submissions and assign reviewers; communicate with submitters, reviewers, and speakers; generate reports; and create a meeting program and schedule.

The Annual Meeting Call for Proposals is now open from November 10, 2020. Information about each of the three proposal types—educational sessions, five-minute preview sessions, and poster sessions— as well as the deadline for submitting a proposal, can be found at https://customer.sspnet.org/ssp/AM21/Submission-Guidelines.aspx.
