Karger Publishers, a leading health sciences publisher based in Switzerland, and Scite, a platform developing the next generation of citations, have launched a pilot to test the Scite Reference Check on selected submissions.
The Scite Reference Check works by automatically detecting references from a manuscript and highlighting how those references have been cited by others and if any of them have been retracted, been withdrawn, or have received another form of editorial notice. This allows authors, editors, and peer-reviewers to ensure that their references are reliable. In addition, it gives editors a new way of finding relevant peer reviewers by identifying those who have cited a reference in the manuscript under review.
In this pilot, Karger Publishers will incorporate the Scite Reference Check into eight of its journals to test how it can improve the peer-review process and to solicit feedback from various stakeholders.
