Knowledge Graph for Designing Better Cyber Defenses -

Cybersecurity architects seeking out new products to defend their networks are often overwhelmed by the number of choices. In addition, they find it challenging to determine the specific technical functions performed by a product or capability. MITRE, a not-for-profit organization, developed D3FEND to help overcome these challenges.

D3FEND is a knowledge graph that describes specific technical functions within cyber technologies in a common countermeasure techniques language. It provides a vast collection of digital artifact definitions to model cyber systems and related countermeasures. Consequently, a foundation for digital engineering and automated analysis of the complex interplay between computer network architectures, threats, and cyber countermeasures is created. This foundation helps security architects comprehend how a new product will interact with or complement others as part of integrated network defense.

D3FEND is still in the developmental stage. Hence, MITRE is seeking feedback from the cybersecurity community to improve and evolve it.
