Japan’s National Institute of Informatics library goes live with Ex Libris Alma Library Services and Primo Discovery -

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, has announced that the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and the Ex Libris Primo® discovery solution have gone live at the National Institute of Informatics (NII), in Japan. The Alma platform will support the NII, which is dedicated to the creation of future value in the new field of informatics.

Prior to adopting the Alma platform, the NII library used two different library systems to manage physical and electronic resources and provided separate access to them. Because the systems were not integrated, researchers had difficulty locating scholarly content. The move to the Alma platform has unified the resources, improved the library’s efficiency, and facilitated researchers’ access to resources.

The feedback from researchers has been positive, citing the ease with which they can search for both electronic resources and physical materials through a single service. The electronic resource management service is scheduled to start operating in the spring of 2022. It is expected that the data linkage will make the management and provision of electronic resource title lists and terms of use more accurate and convenient.
