NLM is prepared to support NIH's implementation of new policy recommendations given by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) via PubMed Central (PMC) and other pertinent data repositories.
PMC is the NLM's free archive of full-text biomedical and life-sciences journal articles. PMC offers free access to journal articles subject to the current NIH Public Access Policy, as well as the policies of other key HHS agencies (AHRQ, CDC, FDA), and other Federal agencies. Additionally, PMC participates in initiatives to enhance access to relevant data by accepting small datasets submitted alongside publications and, when appropriate, linking to data in other frequently used repositories.
NLM supports open science and public accountability and will collaborate with NIH and other federal agency partners to support their improved public access goals. In addition, NLM will continue to collaborate with the library, information science, and scholarly communications communities to explore novel ways to support the revised policy and promote the good stewardship of research data.
NIH policy and PMC submission practices remain unchanged at this time. PMC will continue to accept journal literature and enable public access in accordance with current policy criteria.
