American Physical Society (APS) has announced the launch of the newest Physical Review title, PRX Life. PRX Life will offer scientists from a broad range of disciplines—including physics, biology, chemistry, engineering, and medicine—a high impact, fully open access journal dedicated to publishing outstanding research at all scales of biological organization.
As the first interdisciplinary journal focused exclusively on quantitative biological research, PRX Life aims to catalyze discoveries that advance understanding of living systems by publishing research articles, perspectives, reviews, and tutorials by and for scientists working at the interface of physics and biology.
Building on standards established by Physical Review X, PRX Life is distinguished by its personalized and responsive editorial process. The journal offers flexible article lengths and formats that allow authors to engage and inform a broad audience within the field, while also providing the scientific depth sought by topical specialists.
The journal will open for submissions and plans to publish its first issue in 2023. As an introductory promotion, article publication charges (APCs) will be waived for manuscripts submitted until 2024. All articles published in the new journal will be immediately free to read, and readers anywhere in the world may reuse the content according to the terms of a CC-BY 4.0 International license.
Expanding on the excellence and innovation of Physical Review X (PRX), and similar to PRX Quantum launched by APS in 2020 and PRX Energy, launched in 2021, PRX Life seeks to publish a select set of papers at the intersection of physics and biology, spanning from fundamental to applied science.
PRX Life welcomes manuscripts on all topics relevant to the study of biological and living systems.
