CRKN has signed a two-year, read-and-publish transformative agreement with Wiley. This cost-neutral agreement removes article processing charges (APCs) for authors publishing in Wiley hybrid journals at participating CRKN institutions and is expected to result in the publication of over 4,000 articles as open access over the period of the agreement. Any corresponding authors affiliated with participating CRKN institutions, with articles accepted for publication in Wiley journals during the term of the agreement, will have their APC waived.
Following guidance from the CRKN membership, the Content Strategy Committee (CSC) began negotiations in early 2022 with the goal of achieving a transformative agreement with Wiley that eliminates APCs for CRKN member-affiliated authors, and with no cost increases to participating institutions. Further discussions with members at the 2022 CRKN Conference reaffirmed and refined these goals, and the CSC returned to negotiations with a strong mandate to deliver an agreement to members that meets their objectives and priorities.
The CSC successfully achieved 0% increases for both years of the agreement, the removal of APCs for authors affiliated with participating institutions publishing in Wiley hybrid journals, and a streamlined article approval workflow that will be administered by CRKN, thereby alleviating additional workload for our member institutions. The agreement also provides full reading and perpetual access rights to all journals in the Wiley database.
This agreement is effective January 16, 2023 and includes 71 participants. The complete CRKN-Wiley agreement is available on the CRKN website.
