The Microbiology Society and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore have announced a transformative Publish and Read agreement that will take effect in 2023. This marks the Microbiology Society's first agreement of its kind in India, continuing its goal to support open access publishing for microbiologists worldwide.
The Publish and Read agreement is designed to benefit researchers and institutions alike with no author fees and minimal administration. Affiliate authors at the IISc Bangalore will enjoy full read access and unlimited open access publishing in all six Society titles. This agreement supports the work of the Microbiology Society, a not-for-profit organization with an international membership.
Under the Publish and Read agreement, affiliated researchers at Publish and Read institutions are entitled to unlimited open access publishing, meaning papers with a corresponding author from a Publish and Read institution will be open access by default. They will also have full access to the entire archive of Society content, dating back to 1947, for reading and for text and data mining.
The Publish and Read agreement covers the complete Society portfolio, including fully open access titles Microbiology, Microbial Genomics, and Access Microbiology, as well as hybrid titles Journal of General Virology, Journal of Medical Microbiology, and International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology.
The Microbiology Society's Publish and Read agreement with the IISc Bangalore is a significant milestone towards achieving their goal of supporting open access publishing worldwide, especially in emerging research hubs like India. With this partnership, microbiologists in India can share their research more widely, advancing scientific progress in the field.
