CABI, a leading international not-for-profit organization specializing in agriculture and environmental sciences, has recently added a new collection of case studies to its expanding publishing portfolio. Plant Health Cases is a valuable educational resource that explores various topics related to plant pests and diseases, environmental factors, diagnosis, prevention, and control. The collection, led by Editors-in Chief Lone Buchwaldt, David B. Collinge, and Boyd A. Mori, is now available on the CABI Digital Library and welcomes new submissions.
Plant Health Cases is part of a growing collection of case studies published by CABI, including One Health Cases, Tourism Cases, and Animal Behaviour and Welfare Cases. These case studies provide real-life examples of plant health in practice, written by and for practitioners, public stakeholders, academics, teachers, and students. They offer a valuable tool for teaching and learning, and are easily searchable and downloadable in PDF format.
Each case study published in Plant Health Cases receives a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), making it citable. Once positively peer-reviewed and published by CABI, the author team receives a payment of £100 per case. The cases are typically shorter and faster to write than research articles, ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 words. They may also include real-life interviews to illustrate problem areas.
A sample case study from Plant Health Cases is now available for free on the CABI Digital Library. Titled "Management of the Red Palm Weevil in Date Palm Plantation in Al-Ahsa Oasis of Saudi Arabia," the case study describes current management strategies through a practical example. It also suggests new areas of research that may improve red palm weevil control in the future. With learning objectives, discussion points, and further reading, the case is broken down into digestible sections and is highly illustrated.
All cases published in Plant Health Cases go through the full production process, including peer-review, ensuring that they are authoritative and trusted for use in the classroom. They are offered for inclusion in CABI’s portfolio of resources accessible via the Research4Life initiative, providing free access to students, teachers, and researchers in 67 developing countries.
Plant Health Cases is a valuable addition to CABI’s growing collection of case studies, providing a practical and educational resource for those interested in plant health. With the opportunity for authors to contribute and receive payment, and for readers to access and learn from real-life examples, Plant Health Cases is a must-read for anyone interested in the health and well-being of plants.
