Royal College of Physicians launches e-learning program to facilitate research participation for healthcare professionals -

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has collaborated with the British Pharmacological Society (BPS), the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FPM), and the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) to develop an e-learning program for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The program is aimed at encouraging the participation of healthcare professionals in research.

The modules have been co-produced with patients and carers and aim to support clinical practitioners from different professions in forming multidisciplinary teams across a wide range of healthcare settings. The program is part of the RCP Research and innovation hub's broader work, which aims to increase research participation opportunities for healthcare professionals and patients, particularly in areas where opportunities are currently limited.

Last year, RCP and NIHR jointly published a position statement recommending ways to make research part of everyday practice for all clinicians. The newly launched e-learning program is a step towards implementing those recommendations.

Professor Ramesh Arasaradnam, academic vice president of the Royal College of Physicians, said: "The RCP believes every clinician working in the NHS should be supported to become research active so we are delighted that this free e-learning programme developed with the BPS, FPM and FPH for the NIHR is now live. It's an excellent new initiative that aims to support any health professional that has an interest in clinical research. High-quality research in the NHS is everyone's responsibility and we will continue to call for it to be a core part of clinical care."

The e-learning program is free and available to all healthcare professionals interested in clinical research. The program's launch is expected to increase research participation opportunities and support the integration of research into clinical practice, ultimately benefiting patient care.
