LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries) and ADBU (Association des directeurs et personnels de direction des bibliothèques universitaires et de la documentation) have joined forces to publish a comprehensive report on FAIR Research Data Management (RDM) and Open Access (OA) support services offered by research libraries. The collaborative study, titled 'Open Science Services by Research Libraries: Organisational Perspectives,' aims to shed light on the development stages and essential competencies required to establish and maintain these services. This initiative is part of LIBER and ADBU's ongoing collaboration to enhance Open Science services across Europe.
While numerous research libraries in Europe provide Open Science services in the domains of RDM and OA, it is estimated that about half of the research libraries in the region offer limited services or have yet to fully embrace these areas. To address this, LIBER and ADBU embarked on a study to investigate the organizational structures and competencies necessary to establish and sustain such services effectively.
As part of this comprehensive study, LIBER and ADBU will develop a toolkit in both English and French languages. The toolkit aims to accelerate the adoption of RDM and OA services among research libraries throughout Europe. By providing practical guidance and resources, the toolkit will empower libraries to enhance their Open Science services and contribute to the advancement of research and innovation.
The joint report, 'Open Science Services by Research Libraries: Organisational Perspectives,' is freely available in Open Access format on Zenodo, a popular research repository. Researchers, librarians, and individuals interested in Open Science can access and explore the report's findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Alternatively, a downloadable PDF version of the report is also available.
LIBER and ADBU remain committed to fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and promoting Open Science services within research libraries. Through this joint effort, they aim to facilitate the adoption of RDM and OA practices, ultimately contributing to the advancement of research and knowledge dissemination across Europe.
