Bavarian State Library implements Ex Libris Alma & Primo for enhanced library services and integration -

Ex Libris, a part of Clarivate, has announced that the Bavarian State Library (BSB) in Munich, one of Europe's leading academic libraries and a renowned memory institution, has successfully implemented the Alma library services platform and Primo for resource discovery. This transition represents a significant milestone in the library's commitment to delivering exceptional services and resources to its patrons.

Having been an Ex Libris customer since 2008, the Bavarian State Library has already benefited from the digital preservation and asset management solution, Rosetta. The implementation of Alma and Primo now replaces several outdated systems, offering enhanced connectivity to the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index (CDI). This seamless integration allows users to access a vast range of resources effortlessly and explore the library's extensive collection with ease.

The successful implementation of Alma and Primo was a significant undertaking that required meticulous planning, coordination, and technical expertise. With a collection of 15 million bibliographic records, the migration process demanded a collaborative effort between the Bavarian State Library's team and Ex Libris' Professional Services team. Their dedication ensured a smooth transition without compromising the library's services.

Furthermore, the Bavarian State Library is taking charge of a project that aims to manage ten affiliated regional state libraries through an additional Alma Institution. The project is scheduled to commence in early September, with a planned go-live in the summer of 2024.

Alma is a cloud-based library services platform adopted by over 2,400 libraries worldwide. Offering a unified approach to managing print, electronic, and digital materials, Alma provides a single interface with multiple integrations for student success, research, learning, and library management.

Primo, on the other hand, empowers libraries to optimize the visibility of their collections and offers users fast access to scholarly materials, fostering intuitive exploration of new content. Primo serves as a modern discovery solution, enabling users to better engage with the library from anywhere.
