ResearchGate and Wiley strengthen partnership to expand access to open access journals -

ResearchGate, the leading professional network for researchers, and Wiley, a global leader in research, publishing, and knowledge solutions, have announced an expansion of their partnership to include the majority of Wiley's open access journal portfolio. This collaboration will provide increased visibility and accessibility to 519 journal titles, including the complete open access portfolios of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), as well as all Hindawi titles. The partnership will leverage ResearchGate's new Journal Home offering to enhance the presence of these journals on its platform.

Through the Journal Home initiative, all version-of-record content, including newly published articles, from the selected journals will be syndicated to ResearchGate. In addition, dedicated journal profiles will be activated, making them easily accessible across the ResearchGate platform. Each journal will be prominently displayed on associated article pages and other relevant touchpoints with ResearchGate's active researcher community. This increased visibility aims to expand readership, as measured by COUNTER-compliant reporting, and enhance engagement among the targeted audience of researchers on ResearchGate.

Since the start of their partnership in January 2021, ResearchGate and Wiley have worked together to provide ResearchGate members with article content from a range of Wiley journals. This includes version-of-record articles, associated metadata, figures, references, and relevant journal information such as acceptance rates, publication times, journal-level metrics, and details about editorial teams and scopes.

During the initial 18-month pilot, which encompassed 141 journals and approximately 20,000 articles, ResearchGate and Wiley achieved significant results: Incremental Increases in Readership: Article content from Wiley journals was accessed 6.7 million times on ResearchGate in 2022. Notably, this did not lead to a corresponding decrease in readership on Wiley Online Library, as indicated by COUNTER-compliant reporting; New Audiences: ResearchGate attracted a more diverse geographic audience compared to Wiley Online Library; and Extended Lifespan for Older Articles: Articles older than 50 weeks were read at a higher rate on ResearchGate, providing an extended lifespan for many publications.

Based on these successful outcomes, Wiley will now syndicate article content from a total of 649 journals, with 519 of these journals benefiting from an enhanced presence on ResearchGate through the Journal Home offering. This expansion will further strengthen the accessibility and visibility of Wiley's open access content within the ResearchGate community, ultimately advancing the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
