American Academy of Optometry appoints Dr. David Elliott as new Editor-in-Chief of Optometry and Vision Science -

The American Academy of Optometry (AAO) has announced the appointment of Dr. David Elliott, as the new Editor-in-Chief of Optometry and Vision Science (OVS). Dr. Elliott will succeed Dr. Michael Twa, who is stepping down from the role after seven years of exceptional service.

Dr. Elliott brings with him a wealth of experience, having spent 11 successful years as the Editor-in-Chief of the Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics (OPO) journal. Under his leadership, OPO witnessed an increase in submissions and improved citation metrics, positioning the journal among the top quartile of ophthalmology and optometry journals, and ranking first within optometry. Prior to this role, Dr. Elliott served as a topical editor for OVS for eight years and co-editor for five feature issues. He became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 1992 and has received several prestigious AAO awards, including the Glenn A. Fry Award (2013), the William Feinbloom Award (2018), and the Garland W. Clay Award (2009, 2011).

The search committee, led by Dr. Don Mutti, worked diligently to identify a diverse list of candidates. Dr. Elliott stood out with his exceptional editorial experience, leadership skills, and innovative vision for the future of Optometry and Vision Science. His data-driven plans to enhance the author experience, maximize value for readers, and elevate the scientific reputation of the journal impressed the committee.

As Dr. Twa steps down, the AAO warmly welcomes Dr. Elliott, confident in his wealth of experience and editorial accomplishments. The Academy is eager to witness the seamless transition and fresh perspectives Dr. Elliott will bring to Optometry and Vision Science.

Dr. Elliott's first issue as Editor-in-Chief is scheduled for publication in January 2024. Under his leadership, Optometry and Vision Science is expected to continue its legacy of excellence and contribute significantly to the advancement of the optometric profession.
