Open Science continues to revolutionize research practices, reshaping the way scientists collaborate, publish, and access scientific knowledge. Researchers are now embracing a more comprehensive approach, not only sharing research articles but also all scientific products produced during experiments, including metadata, data, and analytical services. In line with this transformation, LifeWatch ERIC and OpenAIRE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, committing to sustain and accelerate Open Science initiatives.
LifeWatch ERIC and OpenAIRE are dedicated to enhancing their Open Science activities by focusing on the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) for LifeWatch ERIC research and enriching the OpenAIRE Graph. By working collaboratively on projects within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), the OpenAIRE Graph serves as a vital mechanism for aggregating data sources and connecting essential metadata like funding information, data, publications, software, and other unique identifiers (PIDs). Through this strategic collaboration, LifeWatch ERIC and OpenAIRE aim to enhance the overall data quality presented on the EOSC Portal.
Under this partnership, LifeWatch ERIC's publications, datasets, research projects, software, and other outputs will now be made accessible through an OpenAIRE CONNECT gateway. Additionally, a MONITOR service with configurable indicators and tools will be offered, simplifying research monitoring and evaluation while promoting the uptake of Open Science practices.
Both organizations share a common goal of sustaining flagship projects that form the infrastructural backbone of FAIR and open data discovery. Their collective efforts will play a significant role in realizing a meaningful European Open Science Cloud for research communities. Building on the work of projects like EOSC-FUTURE, FAIR-IMPACT, BioDT, and OpenAIRE Nexus, this collaboration seeks to advance Open Science and FAIRness within the European Research Area and beyond, providing innovative and interoperable tools for research communities.
By pooling their expertise and resources, LifeWatch ERIC and OpenAIRE are taking substantial steps towards a more inclusive, transparent, and collaborative approach to research, promoting the principles of Open Science and FAIRness for the benefit of the global scientific community. The joint efforts of these two leading organizations will play a pivotal role in shaping the future landscape of research and knowledge sharing.
