Dr. Brennan Spiegel named Editor-in-Chief of new OA journal - Journal of Medical Extended Reality -

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. has announced the launch of Journal of Medical Extended Reality (JMXR), a new open access peer-reviewed research journal dedicated to the advancement of extended reality in medicine. JMXR is launching in partnership with the American Medical Extended Reality Association (AMXRA), the premier medical society advancing the science and practice of medical extended reality, as their Official Journal. The journal welcomes submissions and will consider virtual, augmented, and mixed reality research, alongside other emerging technologies.

Spearheaded by Editor-in-Chief Dr. Brennan Spiegel, Professor of Medicine and Director of Health Services Research at Cedars-Sinai, the Journal aims to centralize research to stimulate innovative approaches, promote evidence-based practices, and drive the adoption of XR technologies in healthcare settings.

Journal of Medical Extended Reality invites submissions on a wide range of topics related to XR in medicine including but not limited to: Clinical application of XR in neurology, psychology, and pain management; uses of XR in medical, pediatric, and surgical subspecialities; Artificial intelligence in medical XR; medical education, including virtual anatomy and immersive simulation platforms; therapeutics and rehabilitation, including pain management and mental health; human-Computer interaction and user experience for ergonomics and ethics; and regulatory implementation such as economics and insurance coverage for XR.

The journal encourages the submission of original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and case studies on the use of extended reality in medicine. The Editorial Board consists of experts in the field of medical extended reality who have a broad range of expertise and experience in academia, industry, and clinical practice and who will ensure that all submissions are reviewed by peers from the scholarly community of extended reality. This team will ensure the highest standards of scientific rigor and transparency.

The Journal of Medical Extended Reality is dedicated to advancing the field by promoting research, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among interdisciplinary professionals.
