In the lead-up to the 2023 High-Level Workshop on the European Research Area (ERA), Science Europe has unveiled its new campaign, "Talking Science: Fostering International Collaboration." The initiative aims to shine a spotlight on the remarkable efforts of Science Europe Member Organisations in fostering international scientific collaboration with Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. This campaign aligns with fundamental principles such as academic freedom, integrity, and reciprocity.
The 2023 High-Level Workshop on ERA, titled ‘Challenges to reciprocity and equitable scientific collaboration between Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean’ is a collaborative effort between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation (MCIN), and Science Europe.
The "Talking Science" campaign serves as a platform to showcase the multifaceted initiatives undertaken by Science Europe Member Organisations. These initiatives are designed to enhance policies governing research activities, funding instruments, and mobility programs for international scientific collaboration.
The campaign focuses on three key aspects: Principles of Collaboration: Highlighting international scientific collaboration between Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, with a keen emphasis on core values such as academic freedom, integrity, and reciprocity; Tools and Programs: Showcasing existing international scientific collaboration instruments, including funding tools and research mobility programs, that have been instrumental in fostering partnerships across borders; and Global Scientific Networks: Spotlighting the role of global scientific networks in achieving positive societal change through international collaboration.
As the workshop theme suggests, "Challenges to reciprocity and equitable scientific collaboration between Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean" will be a focal point of discussions. The aim is to address challenges head-on and identify opportunities for more robust and equitable collaboration on the international stage.
The collaborative effort between Science Europe, CSIC, and MCIN underscores the commitment to creating a platform for meaningful dialogue and action. By sharing best practices, discussing challenges, and celebrating achievements, the workshop and the accompanying "Talking Science" campaign aim to contribute to a more inclusive and collaborative scientific landscape.
As the "Talking Science: Fostering International Collaboration" campaign unfolds, Science Europe invites the scientific community, policymakers, and the public to engage in a dialogue that celebrates and promotes collaborative efforts in the pursuit of knowledge and positive societal impact.
