The American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced the appointment of Nick Ishmael-Perkins as editor-in-chief of Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), an independent news outlet of ACS.
Ishmael-Perkins joins C&EN as it wraps its centennial year, and following the sudden passing of previous Editor-in-chief Mohammed Yahia shortly after he joined C&EN in August. Ishmael-Perkins is a transformative leader who will pave the way for C&EN to continue as a trusted and preeminent source of scientific news for the next 100 years. An award-winning journalist and producer, Ishmael-Perkins comes to ACS from the International Science Council, where he has served as a senior consultant since 2021. He will join ACS in February 2024, reporting to ACS Publications Senior Vice President and Chief Publishing Officer Sarah Tegen.
Earlier in his career, Ishmael-Perkins led SciDev.Net and spearheaded its digital growth by transforming the platform to best serve its audience, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. He developed a stellar record of preserving and protecting editorial independence and audience trust in the face of challenges from shifting business models and organizational change. His vast experience and inclusive vision will help guide the C&EN team to global growth and success.
