The Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) has announced the call for panel session proposals for its 2024 annual conference. Scheduled to take place from September 16-18 at the Altis Grand Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal, this year's conference marks a significant return to in-person gatherings after a hiatus of five years due to the global pandemic.
As the premier event in the open-access community, the OASPA conference serves as a platform for stakeholders to explore new developments and innovations in scholarly publishing and collectively advance the mission of enabling open access to scholarly research. This year's conference theme revolves around promoting equitable and inclusive open scholarship practices, reflecting the evolving landscape of scholarly communication.
The conference's Program Committee, in collaboration with OASPA, invites the submission of panel session proposals from the wider community. Panels should delve into key topics in open scholarship, offering diverse perspectives and insights from panelists with a good working knowledge of the subject matter. Proposed panels may include practical case studies, exploratory discussions on new initiatives or research, or considerations of the future landscape of equitable open scholarship.
Interested parties are encouraged to submit their proposals via the provided form by the deadline of April 10, 2024. Each panel session typically lasts 60-90 minutes and should feature 3-4 panelists along with a chairperson, allowing ample time for audience Q&A. Registration costs for panelists involved in successful proposals will be waived.
To ensure diversity and inclusivity, panel proposals should include speakers from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and genders. OASPA also encourages submissions from beyond North America and Europe, aiming to foster a truly global dialogue on open scholarship.
Additionally, OASPA will issue a separate call for lightning talk poster proposals in the coming months, offering an opportunity for short presentations on new projects, ideas, or initiatives accompanied by a poster.
