Research4Life Country Connectors program: Expanding horizons and driving impact -

In a concerted effort to realize the vision outlined in the Research4Life 2030 strategic plan, aimed at fostering inclusivity, diversity, and equity in the scholarly landscape, Research4Life has made significant strides through its Country Connectors network project. Over the past two years, this initiative, supported by the Elsevier Foundation, Springer Nature, and the American Chemical Society, has expanded its reach and deepened its impact, paving the way for a more collaborative and interconnected global research community.

The essence of the Country Connectors program lies in its multifaceted approach, which transcends mere information dissemination to foster meaningful connections and collaboration within and between countries. A Country Connector embodies various roles — from being a focal point and mentor to a listening post and champion of equitable research practices. By facilitating two-way communication channels, these connectors serve as catalysts for knowledge sharing, relationship building, and collaborative endeavors within their respective countries and across the Research4Life partner community.

The year 2023 witnessed a significant expansion of the Country Connectors program, underscoring its growing relevance and impact on the global stage. From its inception with six countries in 2022, the program burgeoned to encompass eleven countries by 2023. The addition of another country in January 2024 further solidified the program's reach and efficacy in driving awareness and usage of Research4Life resources.

Participating countries in the 2023 iteration of the program included the United Republic of Tanzania, Bhutan, Ghana, Liberia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Republic of Moldova, El Salvador, and Ukraine. Through tailored and localized approaches, Country Connectors activities in these regions demonstrated a nuanced understanding of regional dynamics, thereby maximizing their impact in fostering equitable access to research resources and facilitating collaboration among researchers.

Research4Life invites individuals and organizations to join hands in supporting its mission of advancing inclusive and equitable access to research. By becoming a member of Friends of Research4Life, you directly contribute to the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals' vision of a more inclusive and equitable world.

As Research4Life continues to expand its reach and deepen its impact through initiatives like the Country Connectors program, it reaffirms its commitment to empowering researchers and bridging the gap between knowledge creators and consumers on a global scale.
