AIP Publishing (AIPP) made a significant announcement welcoming Sara Rouhi to the organization in the newly established role of Director of Open Science and Publishing Innovation. Reporting directly to Chief Publishing Officer Penelope Lewis, Rouhi's appointment marks a pivotal step in AIPP's commitment to advancing open, equitable research communication and driving innovation within the scholarly publishing landscape.
In her new capacity, Rouhi assumes responsibility for devising novel publishing models and sustainable business strategies aimed at accelerating AIPP's mission. Central to her mandate is the empowerment of researchers worldwide, facilitating their ability to propel global progress through enhanced access to scholarly knowledge.
Rouhi brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served in key positions at Public Library of Science (PLOS). As Regional Director, Publishing Development, The Americas, she cultivated strategic engagements with a diverse array of stakeholders, including funders, policymakers, and institutional leaders, within local scholarly communication ecosystems. Notably, her tenure as Director of Strategic Partnerships saw her spearheading the establishment of innovative institutional business models and forging over 200 partnerships globally. Among her achievements was the launch of three pioneering non-APC business models, including the recipient of the esteemed 2021 ALPSP Innovation in Publishing award, Community Action Publishing.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Rouhi is an esteemed figure in the scholarly communications community, recognized for her advocacy in open access, equity in publishing, and diversity within the scholarly communications realm. Currently serving as a Board Member for the Society of Scholarly Publishing (SSP), Rouhi was honored with SSP's Emerging Leader award in 2015, underscoring her stature as a thought leader and catalyst for positive change within the industry.
