UNESCO announces the Global Diamond Open Access Alliance -

UNESCO is set to introduce and officially announce the Global Diamond Open Access Alliance during a webinar on July 10. The event will highlight the alliance's vision, mission, and objectives, while engaging stakeholders in a collaborative effort to promote Diamond Open Access.

The Diamond Open Access (Diamond OA) publication model has emerged as a transformative force in the scholarly publishing landscape, challenging the increasingly inequitable and unaffordable system of knowledge dissemination. Diamond OA has garnered significant support from governments and scholarly communities, aligning with the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science. Unlike other open-access models, Diamond OA ensures that research outputs are freely accessible without financial burdens for authors and readers. A distinctive feature of Diamond OA is its community-driven approach, where all content is owned and led by the scholarly community, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability among all stakeholders.

The Global Diamond Open Access Alliance aims to promote this equitable model of scholarly publishing and to encourage a more inclusive and transparent dialogue within the academic community. The webinar will serve as a platform to introduce this initiative and to engage participants in discussions on how to advance Diamond OA principles globally.
