The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) has announced the appointment of Dr. Sarah Song, MD, MPH, FAAN, as the new Editor-in-Chief of Brain & Life®, its widely recognized magazine, website, and podcast dedicated to patients and caregivers. Dr. Song, an esteemed associate professor in the Department of Neurological Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, will succeed Dr. Orly Avitzur, MD, MBA, FAAN, who will conclude her decade-long tenure on December 31, 2024.
Dr. Song, a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, will take over as Editor-in-Chief on January 1, 2025. She will be the third individual to hold this position since Brain & Life® was launched in 2005. The magazine is renowned for providing valuable tips, the latest research, and inspiring personal stories aimed at promoting brain health and offering expert advice to its readers.
Since joining Brain & Life® in 2015, Dr. Song has made significant contributions as an editorial board member and has served as the associate editor since 2022. Her extensive involvement includes her role as vice chair for the AAN Advocacy Engagement Subcommittee and her work on the AAN Brain Health Committee. Additionally, she has been a key contributor to the editorial board of the Residents and Fellows Section of the AAN’s medical journal, Neurology, and has served as co-founder and past president of the Illinois State Neurological Society.
Dr. Song’s appointment marks a new chapter for Brain & Life® as it continues its mission to connect people with crucial information and support for maintaining brain health. Her deep experience and dedication to neurology and patient care are expected to bring fresh insights and leadership to the publication.
