Springer Nature signs landmark open access books agreement with Qatar National Library -

Springer Nature, a global leader in open access (OA) publishing, has announced a partnership with Qatar National Library (QNL) to deliver the first Open Access Books Agreement in the Middle East. This pioneering deal furthers both organizations' commitment to increasing access to research and advancing knowledge, building on their successful Transformative Agreement established in 2019.

Under this new agreement, authors affiliated with any institute of higher education or non-profit research institute in Qatar will be eligible for funding to cover book processing charges (BPC) when publishing their work OA with Springer Nature. This initiative represents the eighth OA book agreement for Springer Nature and its fourth institutional OA book agreement, highlighting the publisher's dedication to expanding the reach of scholarly research.

The impact of OA books is significant, with studies showing they are downloaded ten times more often and cited 2.4 times more than their non-OA counterparts. This agreement is a crucial step in enabling researchers from Qatar's academic and research institutions to disseminate their work to a global audience more effectively.

Covering all Springer Nature book imprints, the agreement will run for three years, providing sustained support for the publication of open-access books. This collaboration between Springer Nature and QNL underscores a shared vision of enhancing the accessibility and impact of academic research in the Middle East and beyond.
