The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) has announced the appointment of Dr. Sarah DeParis as the new Director of Quality and Clinical Standards within its Quality and Data Science Division. In her new role, Dr. DeParis will spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of care and driving continuous improvement in the field of ophthalmology.
Dr. DeParis brings a wealth of experience to the position, having completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by fellowship training in oculoplastic surgery at the prestigious Wilmer Eye Institute. She holds both a medical degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia.
As Director of Quality and Clinical Standards, Dr. DeParis will oversee the development of vital resources for ophthalmologists, public policy officials, and the general public. These resources, which include practice guidelines, technology assessments, evidence-based policy statements, and other diagnostic and safety references, are essential tools for improving clinical decision-making and ensuring the highest standards of care in ophthalmology.
In addition to her work within the Academy, Dr. DeParis will serve as a key liaison between the AAO and various medical societies, governmental bodies, and non-governmental public health organizations focused on eye health. Her efforts will be crucial in fostering collaboration and aligning standards across the broader medical community.
