Thieme India has announced the appointment of Deepak Kumbhat as its new Managing Director (Country Head). Kumbhat, who brings a wealth of expertise in setting up and managing captive service centers, joins Thieme from Ramboll, a Danish consulting firm. At Ramboll, he played a pivotal role in establishing and transforming global finance shared services, a background that positions him well to lead Thieme India in advancing the standardization of its publication processes.
In his new role, Kumbhat will focus on the continued development of Thieme India’s captive services, particularly in the open access (OA) publication processes within the Thieme Science portfolio. He will also provide P&L leadership for the India and South Asia business, overseeing the Finance and HR teams. Additionally, Kumbhat will work closely with Dr. Nabajyoti Kar, Senior Director of the Product Portfolio, to expand and enhance Thieme India’s product offerings.
Kumbhat succeeds Ajit Kohli, who is retiring after 17 years as Managing Director. Under Kohli's leadership, Thieme India evolved from a sales and marketing location to a fully-fledged unit with its own portfolio and production services. These services have become critically important for Thieme’s global publication activities in the science sector.
Kumbhat's appointment marks a new chapter for Thieme India, as the company continues to play a crucial role in supporting the publisher’s global strategies and expanding its footprint in the scientific publishing industry.
