Bonnie N. Dittel Appointed as Editor-in-Chief of ImmunoHorizons -

The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) has announced the appointment of Bonnie N. Dittel, Ph.D., as the incoming Editor-in-Chief of ImmunoHorizons. Dr. Dittel, a distinguished immunologist and senior investigator at the Versiti Blood Research Institute in Milwaukee, WI, will officially begin her five-year term on January 1, 2025, succeeding Dr. Mark H. Kaplan.

In addition to her role at the Versiti Blood Research Institute, Dr. Dittel holds the Dr. Gilbert C. White, II Endowed Chair and serves as a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Her extensive experience with AAI includes serving as a senior editor for ImmunoHorizons and as a section editor for The Journal of Immunology from 2009 to 2013. Dr. Dittel has also held leadership roles within AAI, such as Abstract Programming Chair for the AAI annual meeting (2021-2024) and Chair of the Committee on the Status of Women (2009-2012).

Dr. Dittel's appointment comes at a significant time for AAI’s scholarly journals, as the organization will begin a new partnership with Oxford University Press in 2025 to produce and market both The Journal of Immunology and ImmunoHorizons. Founded in 2017, ImmunoHorizons is AAI’s fully open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing the knowledge of immunology.

Dr. Dittel is recognized not only for her research contributions but also for her service on various review panels and National Institutes of Health (NIH) study sections. Her achievements were further acknowledged in 2023 when she was named to Stanford’s list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists.

As she prepares to lead ImmunoHorizons into its next chapter, Dr. Dittel will build on the strong foundation laid by Dr. Kaplan, whose term will conclude at the end of December 2024.
