Dr. Galea’s academic credentials include a medical degree from the University of Toronto and graduate degrees from Harvard University and Columbia University. He also holds honorary doctorates from the University of Glasgow and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Ayanian, who has led JAMA Health Forum since its founding, is currently the Alice Hamilton Distinguished University Professor of Medicine and Healthcare Policy and Director of the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation at the University of Michigan. Under his leadership, the journal has gained significant recognition, with 2.8 million article views per year and a Journal Impact Factor of 9.5.

Dr. Galea will step down as dean of Boston University’s School of Public Health at the end of 2024 to assume a new role as the inaugural Margaret C. Ryan Dean of the School of Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
