The Company of Biologists has announced the continuation of its Open Access publishing agreement with the University of California (UC) for an additional three years. This renewed agreement, effective from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2026, extends a previous three-year arrangement and maintains UC’s commitment to fostering accessible scientific research.
Under the agreement, corresponding authors from all ten UC campuses can publish an unlimited number of research articles Open Access in Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms, and Biology Open. This ensures that UC researchers can make their findings immediately and freely accessible to the global scientific community.
In addition to Open Access publishing, the agreement provides UC researchers with unlimited access to Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, and their complete archives dating back to 1853, offering a vast repository of scientific knowledge.
A key feature of the agreement is the financial support for UC authors. The UC libraries will automatically cover the first $1,000 of the discounted Article Processing Charge (APC) for publishing in The Company of Biologists’ journals. Authors with available research funds are asked to contribute the remaining APC cost. However, those without access to sufficient research funds can request full coverage from the UC libraries, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the ability of UC researchers to publish Open Access.
This renewed partnership underscores the shared commitment of both The Company of Biologists and the University of California to advancing Open Access publishing, ensuring that groundbreaking scientific research remains freely accessible and widely distributed.
