ASH names editors-in-chief for two new Hematology journals -

The American Society of Hematology (ASH) has appointed Dr. Willem Fibbe and Dr. Patrick Gallagher as the inaugural editors-in-chief for its two new specialty journals, Blood Immunology and Cellular Therapy (Blood ICT) and Blood Red Cells and Iron (Blood RCI). These new publications are set to launch in early 2025 and will expand ASH’s growing portfolio of Blood journals, further addressing specialized areas of blood disease research.

Blood ICT will focus on immunotherapies for hematologic conditions, including monoclonal antibodies, CAR-T cells, and gene therapies, while also covering cellular and non-cellular immunology. Blood RCI will highlight research on red blood cells, such as inherited and acquired anemias, sickle cell disease, and related areas of cell production.

Dr. Willem Fibbe, an internationally renowned expert in hematopoietic stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, will serve as editor-in-chief of Blood ICT. Dr. Fibbe is emeritus professor of hematology at Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands and has held key leadership positions in organizations such as the European Hematology Association and the World Health Organization.

Dr. Patrick Gallagher, a leading expert in red blood cell biology, will lead Blood RCI. Dr. Gallagher is the director of the Center for Perinatal Research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a professor of pediatrics at The Ohio State University. He has made significant contributions to research in red blood cell production and hematological conditions.

Both journals will be peer-reviewed and open access, offering high-quality original research to the hematology community.
