The Biochemical Society, along with its publishing arm Portland Press, and the Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology (TIB) are set to sign an Open Access (OA) agreement aimed at enhancing global access to molecular biosciences research. This three-year agreement encompasses a consortium of 19 German institutions committed to advancing equitable OA practices.
Under the new agreement, institutions across Germany will continue with a Subscribe to Open model, with most increasing their support to ensure OA publishing across all Biochemical Society journals, including their fully OA titles. This arrangement enables free publication for authors and aligns with the Society’s mission to make scientific knowledge accessible and inclusive, eliminating barriers for researchers at the point of publication.
The collaboration with TIB reflects the ongoing efforts by the Biochemical Society and Portland Press to adopt sustainable OA business models, which broaden access while fostering a diverse scientific community. Through this initiative, the partnership not only supports open sharing of knowledge but also enhances the reach and impact of molecular biosciences research.
