Cochrane unveils new scientific strategy to address global health inequities -

The Cochrane Collaboration has announced an ambitious new scientific strategy aimed at tackling pressing global health issues and addressing inequities that continue to plague populations worldwide. With a legacy of over 30 years and more than 9,000 published systematic reviews, Cochrane has established itself as a leading authority in health evidence, influencing practices from neonatal care to fall prevention in the elderly.

The newly unveiled strategy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which strive to create a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future by 2030. Cochrane aims to collaborate with both internal and external partners to confront health disparities, advocating for a healthier future for all and supporting the achievement of these global goals.

Cochrane's scientific strategy is anchored in four key research priorities that reflect the most urgent health challenges facing the global community:

• Maternal, New-born, and Child Health: Enhancing the health and well-being of mothers and children worldwide while addressing significant health equity gaps across different populations.

• Multiple Chronic Conditions: Focusing on improving the lives of individuals living with multiple chronic conditions by identifying effective strategies for person-centered care and illness prevention.

• Infectious Diseases: Providing vital evidence to empower individuals globally to protect themselves against both existing and emerging infectious threats.

• Climate Change and Sustainability: Deepening the understanding of the intricate relationships between climate change and human health, equipping communities to adapt to health impacts related to environmental changes.

Underpinning these research priorities are Cochrane's four foundational commitments:

• Innovate in Methods: Leveraging their expertise to develop cutting-edge research methodologies, including the integration of artificial intelligence (AI).

• Promote Health Equity: Ensuring that health equity guides every aspect of their work, influencing the research questions they pursue and the dissemination of their findings.

• Collaborate and Involve: Partnering with global stakeholders, national agencies, and local healthcare consumers to enact transformative health changes.

• Champion Research Integrity: Upholding and enhancing standards of research integrity to ensure that the evidence produced remains trustworthy and credible.

Cochrane’s new strategy marks a significant step forward in its mission to reduce health inequities and contribute to a healthier world. For more information about Cochrane’s scientific strategy and its initiatives, visit the Cochrane website.
