Springer Nature appoints Saskia Steinacker as Chief Digital Officer to lead AI and digital transformation for research -

Springer Nature has announced the creation of a new Chief Digital Officer (CDO) role to accelerate its digital transformation and harness AI-driven innovations within the research community. Saskia Steinacker, a digital transformation expert from Bayer, will step into this role starting November 1, 2024. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, Steinacker will be responsible for spearheading the development of cutting-edge products, platforms, and services, with a focus on enhancing the digital experience for researchers, authors, and reviewers.

With over 15 years in digital transformation, Steinacker’s expertise is expected to be pivotal in translating new technologies into practical, impactful solutions. Her responsibilities will include overseeing teams involved in the development and implementation of innovations like Springer Nature’s new peer review platform, Snapp, designed to streamline and improve the peer review process.

As part of Springer Nature’s commitment to advancing scientific discovery, the organization has reported impressive engagement on its platforms. In 2023, its primary research platforms, including SpringerLink and nature.com, recorded 3.1 billion downloads—equivalent to 98 downloads every second and a year-on-year increase of 8%.
